Funder Delegation Agenda and Benefits
Funders wishing to attend the WSF can do so on their own, or they can join FNTG’s delegation in Nairobi, from January 19-25 (arrival date: January 18). FNTG arranges hotel reservations and provides crucial background information prior to departure, and organizes orientation sessions, site visits and briefings in Nairobi. Our close association with WSF organizers has been shown in the past to significantly enhance the experience and understanding gained by donors at this signal event.
Members of the delegation receive:
- An initial orientation call providing a overview of the WSF history and process and an idea of what to expect in Nairobi;
- Secured hotel reservations at a central hotel with our own shuttle bus to the forum venues;
- A briefing book containing travel tips, logistical information and background readings on the local and regional setting, on civil society and global justice movements in general, and on the not-uncomplicated evolution and development of the WSF itself;
- Official WSF delegate accreditation, providing access to all venues and discussions;
- A day-long orientation session (January 19) in Nairobi providing additional context and information about Africa, civil society and what to expect (and how to navigate) the World Social Forum, followed by a dinner/reception with members of the WSF organizing committees and an NGO/grantee of your choice;
- The option to choose from a number of site visits (morning of January 20), to learn about the realities and efforts of Kenyan organizations in the areas in and around Nairobi;
- Informal daily breakfast orientations to discuss how events are unfolding and to talk about highlights of the coming day’s events;
- A facilitated evaluation/wrap-up session (January 25) for funders to share experiences and insights from the previous week, to discuss the relevance of what they experienced to their own grantmaking, and to discuss any joint strategies or initiatives that emerge from the group.
Assistance (through a reliable agency in Nairobi) with independent travel to safari lodges or other points of interest before or after the forum.
