Join a Funders Delegation
to the
World Social Forum
in Nairobi, Kenya
The yearly gathering for the World Social Forum (WSF) provides a key venue for members of alternative globalization movements to coordinate world campaigns, share and refine organizing strategies, and inform each other about issues and movements from around the world.
For the first time, this global forum of progressive activists, academics, socially responsible business leaders and non-governmental organizations will meet on the African continent.
The Funders Network on Trade and Globalization (FNTG), working together with the Africa Grantmakers Affinity Group (AGAG), Grantmakers without Borders and with foundation colleagues with diverse professional interests, will organize its 6th delegation of funders interested in better understanding this growing civil society phenomenon and in reflecting on their own connections to the multiple dimensions of globalization and sustainable development.
FNTG has long been involved with the World Social Forum, and is an observer-member of the WSF’s International Council. A number of FNTG leaders are specialists in the areas of global civil society and global governance, and their insights have benefited the more than 160 foundation members and donors who have participated in the WSF through FNTG auspices over the years.
At the same time, the deep understanding of Africa and African issues by members of the Africa grantmakers group, and their long-term commitment to the continent, will add immeasurably to the depth and success of our experience in Nairobi.
In joining our delegation, funders will enjoy a unique opportunity to observe and participate in this fascinating and historically significant gathering firsthand.
Through pre-trip briefings, background materials, orientation discussions and site visits in Kenya, delegates will also gain insights into phenomenon of the WSF itself. By participating daily in the forum’s hundreds of workshops, seminars, debates, cultural events, manifestations and celebrations, we will better understand the thousands of local, regional and global social movements that are increasingly becoming a factor in today’s world, movements intent on building compassionate, sustainable and just social policies under the banner of “Another World Is Possible”.
