DescriptionAfrica and communities of the African Diaspora are among the most severely impacted by the dynamics of globalization and neo-liberalism. Meanwhile, the manifestations of the movements against globalization in the U.S. have been slow to build bases of support within communities of the African Diaspora. The idea for a National Conference on Globalization and the African World was developed by leadership of the TransAfrica Forum, Public Citizen's Global Trade Watch and the Miami Workers’ Center as a way to discuss the devastating impact, consequences of and responses to globalization on the African world. We will hold this conference concurrently to the ministerial of the FTAA to be held in Miami this November. The central themes for the conference will focus on trade agreements from a Pan-African perspective addressed through a series of workshops, panels and general plenary sessions to occur from November 19-22. We intend to document, preserve and distribute the discussions and outcomes of the conference through video documentation, the publication of a conference report, and a multilingual Globalization and the African World website. We will provide simultaneous translation services in Creole, English and Spanish during the conference as well as the translation of all conference materials.
