| Description | AMIBA works to prevent corporate chains from displacing community-based businesses and restore decision making authority over community future to citizens who call it “home.” Primarily, AMIBA helps communities create Independent Business Alliances -- coalitions of local independent businesses, community organizations and citizens engaged in 1) public education about the economic, social and cultural importance of community-based businesses; 2) elevating the collective profile of those businesses through group promotion; 3) building relationships with local government to increase awareness of issues facing community-based businesses, give them a voice, and instigate positive policy changes to strengthen the local economy and ensure a place for entrepreneurism. |
