Description | The Alliance for Responsible Trade (ART) is a U.S. network of labor, religious, women’s, environmental, development and research organizations that promotes equitable and sustainable trade and development. ART documents the impact of existing hemispheric trade agreements, including NAFTA, tracks and critiques current negotiations of free-trade agreements, especially the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), and develops alternative proposals that promote the interests of the majority of the hemisphere's population. ART seeks to expand the public debate on trade in this country and to build consensus around an alternative approach. In all of its efforts, ART works closely with counterparts in the Americas. It is a founding member of the Hemispheric Social Alliance, a coalition of civil-society organizations that shapes common strategies and actions related to the FTAA. |
