Project overviewThe Indigenous Peoples Forum will be held September 10, 2024 in Cancun to highlight, strategize and take action on Indigenous Peoples’ concerns on the WTO and globalization. The Forum is a collaborative effort between Indigenous Environmental Network (IEN), International Indian Treaty Council (IITC) and Global Resistance. The Forum will consist of a series of panels led by Indigenous Peoples from around the world, and we are working actively with Indigenous groups in Mexico to ensure a strong presence of Indigenous People in Cancun. Our Mexico partners include Asamblea Nacional Indígena Plural por la Autonomía (ANIPA) and Coalición Obraro Campesino Indígena Estudiantil del Istmo- Frente por la Democracia y el Desarrollo de Oaxaca (COCEI-FDD).

Our goal is to engage and derive leadership from Indigenous communities in the global anti-globalization movement, and our efforts will continue beyond the Cancun meeting and build towards the FTAA meeting in Miami in November as well as the World Social Forum in India in January ‘04.

We are seeking support for the Indigenous Peoples Forum which will assert the central role of impacted communities in forging a global movement for justice and give ownership of the anti-globalization movement to impacted communities. We are particularly seeking funds for a North American delegation of Indigenous People to Cancun and mobilization of Indigenous Peoples from across Mexico to Cancun.
