Project overview | Working with NGOs who are spearheading an ecotourism certification scheme which has NOT included Indigenous Peoples (but targets our lands), we have agreed to collaborate as facilitators to bring in experienced Indigenous leadership to review and evaluate current efforts and to determine whether they are culturally appropriate. This stage includes research, outreach and communications, and travel logistics for several NGO-Indigenous meetings in Latin America. It also includes compiling a directory of Indigenous community-based tourism projects from the Amazon to the Arctic. While still perhaps the largest industry in the world, after 9/11 and disease outbreaks, it is clear that tourism is not sustainable, and therefore must be integrated into the larger development picture for communities. |
