Project overview | A multi-sector dialogue for information sharing, policy debate and research to support technically sound contributions to key international negotiating processes, such as the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). One goal of this project is to increase the national and regional voice and improve participation of key South American stakeholders interested in addressing the linkages between trade and the environment. Since 1999, we have coordinated a South American group of experts on trade and the environment know as Grupo Zappallar (GZ). GZ has more than 45 members from a variety of sectors in nine South American countries (Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia) plus other members of the region that work in Switzerland and the United States. We are seeking both short-term travel support and longer-term support for the continuation of key activities in 2004, with a focus on improving representation in future FTAA and WTO negotiating processes, promoting our current research document on environmental goods and services and developing new research documents that will ensure inclusion of the Latin American perspective into the international debate on trade and the environment. |
