| Project overview | Twenty-five homes lack latrines in the rural community of El Hato Maunica. The villagers have asked the municipal government for support and refused. The 136 people living here are worried about the health and environmental risks of not having a latrine. The villagers practice subsistence agricultural and do not have the funds to build their own latrines. A typical latrine is a hand dug hole 9 feet deep, with a concrete slab floor and concrete box seat. We provide a sheet of zinc for the roof, and the families provide local building materials for the outhouse walls and door. |
