Project overview | In 2003, the National Network organized grassroots immigrant community delegations/caucuses to monitor and advocate for migrant worker rights at the WTO meeting in Cancun, and the FTAA meeting in Miami (including being part of the Root Cause march, leading the Immigration workshops, and other activities). Over the next year, the National Network will embark on consolidating these projects and other ongoing work around the FTAA to ensure the guarantee and protection of migrant workers’ rights within its negotiations, policies and practices. Specifically, we will work to: Monitor ongoing FTAA negotiations and working documents; Advocate for critical international standards of immigrant worker rights within FTAA policies and agreements; Produce FTAA-related educational materials and resources, and organize/coordinate training activities for our immigrant community members and partners; Organize bi-national and multi-national community networking and movement building activities to promote collective analyses and action around FTAA, international trade policies, migration and migrant rights; As far as possible, ensure representation and voices from immigrant communities within FTAA negotiations and policies, as well as in FTAA mobilizations; Produce media-oriented material and activities to raise public awareness about the relationship of FTAA to migration and migrant workers’ conditions. |
