Project overview BAN is named for the Basel Convention, the world’s only treaty that has sought to address environmental injustice head-on with its decision to adopt the Basel Ban Amendment, which, if enough countries ratify it, will ban the dumping of toxic waste from rich to poor countries. Our organization serves to ensure that this ban goes into legally binding effect in order to stop the prevailing cost externalizations and end-of-pipe toxics management, in favor of reducing toxic usage in design of our products and processes. BAN believes that reform is vital in both our industrial and economic paradigms if we are to make our world a less toxic place. Basel Ban Ratification: BAN has been at the frontlines of ensuring that the Basel Ban on toxic wastes is not corrupted and weakened. Advocacy at the United Nations level through our presence and engagement at the Basel Convention meetings greatly supports this work. In addition, continued information and policy papers that can be released on this issue, building relationships with country representatives that would help them understand the Basel Ban Amendment, thus preserving it. See our website www.ban.org for more information or contact us to help out in this critical effort.
