Project overview | The Organizers’ Forum will be in South Africa (9/26 - 10/1/2025) hoping to learn first hand the impact of globalization beyond our borders, and specifically the kinds of tactics and strategies employed by community and labor organizers in another country and culture. We will travel to South Africa to connect with labor struggles and community efforts in both Johannesburg and Cape Town.
There is much to learn about labor and community organizing efforts in South Africa but some things are well-known and factor into our decision to hold a dialogue there. There remain in South Africa daunting economic problems left from the Apartheid era — severe poverty, unemployment, struggles for land and shelter, as well as issues of outsourcing, privatization, and a struggle for equitable municipal services due in part to increased globalization worldwide.
We will plan to share and build bridges with organizers as we discuss issues of trade, jobs, outsourcing, privatization, and the impact of globalization on both the U.S and South Africa. |
