Project overview | Water scarcity is one of the most pressing problems we face as a global community and nowhere is this predicament felt more strongly than the Middle East. While water scarcity has been a source of division, debate and hostile conflict, it has recently become a common ground for cooperation between concerned groups from opposing factions. Over the past three years, Earth Day Network (EDN) has been working with local NGOs to develop cross-border cooperation and a more sensible approach to regional water management. EDN’s goal is to increase cooperation in sharing the region’s extraordinarily scarce fresh water resources through education, civic involvement and community projects.
EDN will: increase collaborative efforts and build broader alliances among NGOs in Israel, Palestinian areas, and Jordan; expand our environmental education and water conservation efforts in the region; increase cross-border collaboration between regional NGOs and serve as a common thread and liaison between citizen groups, NGOs and government agencies; and engage the corporate sector in development. Through our Middle East program, EDN will increase our facilitation of regional cooperation toward a healthy, peaceful, just and environmentally sustainable Middle East.
