Project overviewPeople around the world are becoming increasingly aware of environmental concerns as these issues affect their daily lives in the forms of health problems, urban sprawl, pollution, higher energy and gas bills, and lack of accessible public parks. However, governments, industry, and communities are slow to react to these and other environmental problems. Earth Day Network’s Education Program seeks to develop and promote responsible and respectful attitudes and behaviors towards the environment and the Earth’s natural resources and build broad based citizen support for sound, workable, and effective environmental and sustainable development policies. In order to carry out these tasks, EDN will develop the next generation of environmental citizens by promoting ecological literacy and civic participation; build a larger constituency of individuals who are prepared to buy environmental products and incorporate environmental responsibility in their personal and civic lives; and foster the development of adults who will have both a sense of personal responsibility for their impact on their environment as well as better developed citizenship skills.
