Project overview | The World Social Forum (WSF) is an annual global gathering of community activists. The upcoming WSF will be held in Brasil on January 26th-31st, 2005. During this WSF, migrant groups, especially from the Americas, will converge and coordinate efforts in a Hemispheric Summit of Migrants. NNIRR has played a distinct role in the international mobilizing of migrants, (including co-organizing an International Migrant Caucus at the last WSF) and hopes to lend its leadership and support to this WSF convening.
This is an important juncture internationally and nationally, for the defining of a rights-based framework for migration. Corporate interests seek cheap pools of labor – especially migrant workers. Immigrants are struggling to raise a grassroots voice in this process, while strengthening its own capacity.
NNIRR is seeking support for coordination and scholarships for 12 immigrant and refugee participants from the U.S. and internationally. |
