Project overview | Farmer Voices at the WTO:
Between November 2005 - March 2006, NFFC is seeking funds to expand our participation at the WTO in Hong Kong and to ensure full U.S. farmer representation at the February 2006 North American regional Via Campesina meeting in Canada.
We see the urgency of having broader representation of family farmers and farm worker organizations in Hong Kong to counter the U.S. position on agriculture. Our work in Hong Kong will be in coordination with the Via Campesina delegation as well as other organizations who will have a presence within the NGO/Civil Society arena.
Goals of our efforts will be to 1) increase media coverage that there are U.S. farmers opposed to the U.S. position at the WTO, 2)expand support and publicize a statement being circulated internationally on a country's right to establish their own farm and food security, and 3) followup from Hong Kong at meetings planned by NFFC groups to further the U.S. based food sovereignty campaign.
