Project overview | The project aims to build the capacity of Eastern and Southern African Civil Society Organisations (CSO) to engage in the ongoing debate surrounding the trade agreement their countries are currently negotiating with the EU. By doing that they can advocate the concerns of the marginalised people they represent. It is planned to do this through providing resources to our partner organisations in Zambia, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Tanzania and Ethiopia to carry out impact assessments of the trade agreements (which have so far been lacking) which will then along with existing studies and developed advocacy information on EPAs will be disseminated to CSOs through national and regional workshops. Regional synergies will be developed through the strengthening of Eastern and Southern African Non-state Actors Forum (ESANAF) cooperation activities. At the international level, the ability of Eastern and Southern African CSOs to influence policy makers will be enhanced through linking them to European CSO networks via roundtable dialogues and informal consultations. The project will contribute to achieving the Millennium Development Goal 8: Developing a Global Partnership for Development. The overall objective of the project will be achieved through building mutual understanding, confidence and co-operation amongst stakeholders. |
