Project overview | Our Agriculture Justice Project aims to create a North American fair trade food label. The label will embody verifiable claims of certain social justice standards. These include fair trade, farmers' rights, farm workers' rights, processors' rights, and others. Working for years with U.S. and international CSOs, RAFI has launched a set of pilot tests, including market-testing and feedback, in California, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Learnings will feed into a calibrated launch of our North American label. The Agriculture Justice Project is partnering with the Domestic Fair Trade Working Group and many other progressive colleagues. Fully functining, the label will provide economic benefits for farmers, farm workers, and processors. A portion of marketplace revenues will be plowed back into the operation of the label. The North American fair trade movement of which this project is a part is extending our knowledge and assets to strengthen efforts of fair trade movements in Central and South America and Africa. |
