Project overview | This November during the FTAA ministerial in Miami, the Miami Workers’ Center, People Organized to Win Employment Rights (POWER) and the Tenants and Workers Support Committee propose to convene a convergence of community-based, no- and low-wage workers’ organizations to contest the sweeping proposals contemplated by the FTAA. The principal goal of this convergence is to bring grassroots voices representing no- and low-wage workers organizations - especially those made up of and led by women of color- to the forefront of the global justice movement. This convergence will involve exchanges between grassroots membership, workshops and direct action. This experience will allow participant organizations to draw on and document lessons from our collective work, deepen our analysis of the impacts and agents of globalization, and develop strategies of resistance as well as alternative visions to the current model of globalization. Funding support will help to cover the costs of air and ground transportation to Miami, accommodations, translation services, documentation of the events and preparatory conference calls.
