| Project overview | These are urgent times! With global warming, trade and resource wars, worldwide epidemics, increasing poverty, loss of civil liberties, the decay of communities - it is clear to more and more people that the world system is on the wrong track.
Yet when people talk about the fate of our country and the earth, the same stubborn question keeps coming up: “What else can we do?” After all, why complain about “the global suicide economy,” if there is no alternative? And it may feel good to declare that “Another World is Possible!” But who is doing it, what have they learned, what can they teach others?
GLIMPSES OF A BETTER FUTURE is a documentary series for public television that responds to these questions. We want to tell the world about those who are successfully creating alternatives to the global corporate order, to give advocates and policy makers concrete examples they can emulate, and to satisfy skeptical critics who wonder if we can live a modern sophisticated life in a complex planetary society without relying upon the distant, impersonal institutions that generate so many of the problems we are trying to solve.
